Treatment programs should provide assessment for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases and counseling to help individuals modify or change behaviors that place themselves or others at risk of infection.
Fred Brown Recovery Services works in conjunction with outside agencies, such as, the Department of Health, San Pedro Free Clinic, Harbor-UCLA and the Los Angeles County HIV Mobile Testing Unit to provide in-house education on all communicable diseases with emphasis on those associated with drug use. Education is used to increase the patient’s awareness of risk factors, assessment of high-risk behavior, symptoms, and availability of treatment and confidential counseling. Routine testing is provided for HIV, hepatitis, and tuberculosis. Fred Brown Recovery Services also assists participants with outside health appointments and support groups.
